STEPHEN DABINETT
Stephen Dabinett APM, affectionately known as 'Dabs,' served 42 years with the Queensland Police Service (QPS) in various leadership roles, including operational, corporate, and specialist units. He played a key role in disaster response and recovery through the Queensland Disaster Response Network. After retiring, Steve worked as an Executive Program Manager in the Queensland Disaster Reform Project, collaborating with volunteers and employees of the State Emergency Services. He also mentors with the Brisbane Leadership Circle and volunteers as a business manager.
Awarded the Australian Police Medal in 2023 and a bravery award from the Royal Humane Society for his actions during the 2011 Queensland floods, Steve holds a Masters-level qualification. Having served the community for most of his life, he is dedicated to community safety, social cohesion, and harm reduction. YOU CHOOSE is honoured to have the contributions of such an experienced policing leader and community-service champion.
MARGARET MARKOVIC
Margaret Markovic is a multi-award-winning road safety campaigner, advocate for road trauma families, and Founder/Director of Road Trauma Families Victoria Inc. She created the Raw2Roar program for teens who have lost siblings to road fatalities. A former teacher and grief counselor, Margaret's passion for road safety grew after her son, Daniel, was fatally injured by a drunk and drugged driver, leading to the formation of Road Trauma Families with her daughter, Lisa, in 2012. In recognition of her efforts, she was awarded the King's Birthday Order of Australia in 2023.
Margaret is a strong advocate of YOU CHOOSE Programs and the social-mission, student-led approach to road trauma and harm prevention. Her wisdom, insights and experience are of enormous benefit to YOU CHOOSE, and our common vision for saved lives and safer communities.
TODD COLE
Todd holds Bachelor Degrees in both Commerce and International Business. He is an accredited Financial Analyst, Planner and Advisor; and an Associate at Wilsons Advisory.

Todd’s expertise in governance, budget & forecasting oversight, and financial probity is invaluable to auditing, independence and due diligence in his role as Acting Chair of YOU CHOOSE.

He is active in Youth community engagement and has a genuine personal investment in youth wellbeing and safety.
Leanne Smyth
Leanne holds a Bachelor of Laws from Sydney University and is currently Manager Legal Quality Assurance and Compliance at IAG Insurance.

She has professional specialisations in Compliance, Governance, Quality Assurance and Risk Assessment.
​
Leanne has a career interest and personal commitment to building safer communities; and actively seeks opportunities to use her professional skills and heart-for-servce for social well-being projects.
